GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) –

Gas prices are on the rise in Greenville.

Gas Buddy, a fuel price tracking service, reported Monday that the price per gallon in Greenville had risen nearly four times more than the national average in the past week.

Gas Buddy stated that average retail gasoline prices in Greenville had risen 8.6 cents per gallon, averaging $2.11 per gallon, the national average saw an increase of 2.1 cents per gallon to $2.33 per gallon.

Current prices in Greenville are 30 cents higher than they were one year ago and 16.3 cents higher than one month ago.

In Spartanburg, gas prices went up 8.1 cents a gallon to $2.06.

Asheville only saw a 0.7 cent uptick in prices to $2.21 per gallon.

“For the third straight week, gasoline prices have accelerated with the national average at its highest level in over eight weeks, driven by rising oil prices as inventories continue to tighten and concern over Venezuela lingers,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy. “Looking behind us however, gas prices have remained in a relatively tight range for the last year, staying within a 30 cent wide range. While we’re likely to see gas prices continuing to move higher in the week ahead as they catch up to oil, we’re unlikely to break out of the well-established rut in the national average which has kept prices between $2.12 and $2.42 for the last 15 months.”
